About Us

Espressivo is a quartet of well-seasoned flute players from the Cortland, NY area.

The members are:

Maria R. Mucaria, Director

Maria earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Special Education concentration at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. She completed her Master of Arts at Long Island University’s C. W. Post Campus in Music History and Literature with an emphasis in Piccolo and Flute Performance. She performs on various other instruments with the Cortland Trillium Trio, Seven Leaf Clover, the Cortland College-Community Orchestra, and the Cortland Old Timers Band. She also plays for  The Arts at Grace CNY Orchestra and (on occasion) with the Northern Tier Symphony Orchestra. She is Founder and Director of the Cortland Area Flute Ensemble (CAFE), CAFE Jr., and Espressivo. She is also a freelance musician and teacher.

Jane Hunter

Jane studied music performance before choosing a permanent gig as a nurse, currently employed by St. Joseph's Hospital. In addition to Espressivo, she performs in various ensembles including the Cortland Old Timers Band and the SUNY Cortland Choral Union, as well as the Cortland Area Flute Ensemble, and Trio Presto flute trio. Jane is a staunch advocate for keeping music alive in our schools.

Terry Mingle

Terry has been playing flutes in various bands and ensembles since 1972. She studied music in college, at both Shenandoah Conservatory and Mansfield University, finally earning a Bachelor's degree in Music Merchandising (music/business/marketing). Terry currently works for Cornell University full-time, and National Audubon Society's "Project Puffin" part-time. She performs in various other ensembles, including the Cortland Old Timers Band, the Cortland Area Flute Ensemble (CAFE), Trio Presto flute trio, and a local rock band called "Blue Monday". Though once a more serious musician in her younger days, Terry now only plays music for the fun of it.

Jeanine Rose

Jeanine Rose is a professional mathematics tutor and Supplemental Instruction coordinator at SUNY Cortland. She has played flute for more than forty years and has performed in various ensembles in Vermont, New York, North Carolina, and Maryland. In addition to Espressivo, she plays flute and piccolo with the Cortland Old Timers Band, the Cortland Area Flute Ensemble (CAFE), and Trio Presto flute trio. Jeanine has performed with the Cortland College Community Orchestra and plays flute and recorder for Magic Garden Puppets Traveling Marionette Theater.
